Nuoro completes state-of-the-art water pilot project for VITO

28/09/2023

Nuoro has successfully delivered five advanced water treatment pilot systems to VITO, following an intensive ten-month journey of engineering, design, construction, and testing. The result is a unique fleet of flexible and modular water treatment systems, equipped with cutting-edge membrane technologies. These systems provide VITO with the ability to conduct in-depth research into circular water usage in Flanders.

Innovative and custom-designed pilot systems

The project involved the design and construction of five independent, modular units, offering maximum flexibility for various research needs. These units are installed at Aquafin in Hasselt, where VITO will conduct research into the reuse of bio-effluent. The pilot systems are designed to be deployed in various configurations, making them suitable for a wide range of water treatment processes.

Core technologies of the pilot systems

Reverse osmosis (RO)

Direct nanofiltration (DNF)

Ultrafiltration (UF)

Multimedia filtration (MMF)

water treatment

Activated carbon filtration

UV disinfection

VITO: progress through innovation

VITO, the independent Flemish research organization for cleantech and sustainable development, plays a key role in Flanders’ water transition. As a scientific partner of the Blue Deal, an ambitious program to combat water scarcity in Flanders, VITO is taking a significant step forward in its R&D activities with these new pilot installations.
