renewable natural gas

Upgrade raw biogas into biomethane: a green alternative to fossil gas, ready to inject in the gas grid.

Nuoro can offer you:

Biogas: green renewable fuel

Biogas is a renewable gas produced through the anaerobic digestion of organic matter. This mixture primarily consists of methane and carbon dioxide, along with smaller amounts of other gases. Traditionally, biogas has been utilized directly in combined heat and power (CHP) units or biogas boilers to generate electricity and heat. However, the decreasing attractiveness of green power certificates for many of these installations has reduced their appeal. Additionally, raw biogas is characterized by its aggressive and corrosive nature, presenting challenges for handling and equipment.

Biomethane: A Versatile Energy Carrier

Upgrading biogas into biomethane offers substantial advantages. This process involves removing carbon dioxide and other impurities, resulting in a gas composed of nearly pure methane (98% CH4). Chemically identical to fossil natural gas, biomethane can be seamlessly injected into the existing gas grid. Importantly, biomethane is a renewable and sustainable fuel as the carbon in the methane was originally captured from the atmosphere by plants through photosynthesis. This allows for its utilization in a wide range of applications, including heating, transportation, industrial processes, and domestic use. Furthermore, biomethane can be liquefied to produce bio-LNG, a suitable fuel for heavy-duty transportation and maritime sectors.
